Project Description
CK May Excavating is currently playing a crucial role in the road construction and infrastructure improvement project for the US Highway 191 (US 191) corridor between Bozeman and Big Sky, a route that has seen significant traffic increases in recent years. Partnering with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, CK May Excavating working on the Turn Bay North phase, located half a mile north of Gallatin Gateway. This phase involves constructing a left-turn bay, widening the shoulder, and replacing an existing bridge with a box culvert. Traffic control measures, including reduces speeds and a temporary detour, are implemented to ensure safety and minimize disruptions during the bridge replacement. The construction began in mid-March and will be successfully completed in early August, addressing critical infrastructure needs and enhancing traffic flow in the area.
In addition to the Turn Bay North phase, CK May Excavating is contributing to the South of Spanish Creek South phase of the project, which focuses on pavement preservation between Storm Castle Road and the Lava Lake Trailhead. Starting in late May and continuing through July, this phase aims to extend the service life of the roadway. The work included lane closures, reduced speeds, and signal-controlled one-way traffic, with many activities conducted at night to reduce impact on travelers. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and plan for additional travel time through the work zone. CK May Excavating's efforts in these projects has been pivotal in improving the safety and functionality of the US 191 corridor, meeting the growing demands of increased traffic and ensuring long-term roadway durability.
